Railways, metros are an important part of any infrastructure system and this is also true for Greater China.

In Hong Kong's this network is made up of trains and light railway (Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation KCRC, metros (Metro Transit Railway Corporation MTRC) and tramlines (owned by Wharf Group).

The network includes the following lines:-

1) Rail Network

East Rail - runs between Hong Hum and Luo Wu (China boarder) - 34 km long with 13 stations.
West Rail - runs between Nam Chong and Tsuen Wan - 30.5 km long with 9 stations (2 connect to light railway).
Light Rail - runs several routes between Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai - 36.15 long with 68 stops.
Please note that the MTRC has built very large shopping and residential complexes above its station and therefore is a reasonably large player in the commercial and residential sectors as well.

2) Metro Network

Kwun Tong Line (runs between Yau Ma Tei and Tiu Keng Leng) - 15.8 km long with 15 stations
Tsuen Wan Line (runs between Tsuen Wan and Central) - 16.9 km long with 16 stations
Island Line (runs between Sheung Wan and Chai Wan) - 13.3 km long with 14 stations
Tseung Kwan O Line (runs between Po Lam and North Point) - 10.7 km long with 7 stations
Tung Chung Line (runs between Tung Chung and Hong Kong) - 31.1 km long with 6 stations
Airport Express (runs between the Airport and Hong Kong) - 35.3 km long with 4 stations

3) Tramways

Main line - runs between Kennedy town and Shau Kei Wan Ho - 123 stops
Branch line - runs between Wanchai and Happy Valley - 9 stops
Jointly run 6 routes of totally 30 km length - tram tracks follow the roads routes.
