As the Greater China region develops so has the construction and improvement of housing within the region.

In Hong Kong there are hundreds of housing estates, housing around 6.8 million residents.
The split between private and public housing is approximately 50/50 - as at 2002 the percentages were as follows:-

As a subsector within housing estates, carparks is quite a large sector - for example within Hong Kong there are an estimated 597,000 car spaces, of which 406,000 are within housing estates, 184,000 are for public use (car parking buildings, hotels, shopping centres etc.) and 7,000 within Government leased carpark buildings.

This same trend is repeated within China, Macau and Taiwan - however the percentage of Government houses within these areas is much lower than is seen in Hong Kong, with more people living in private residences.
